| 2008 PYRENEES MOUNTAINS: A Climber's Paradise |
While the Alps capture the most attention, France's other famed mountain range, the Pyrenees, rivals the Alps in beauty while offering equally epic climbs. Consider recent Tours, where the race's outcome was decided on the climbs of the Pyrenees, long before the race reached Paris. Cycling aficionados appreciate the grandeur of the Pyrenees and its classic climbs: Luz Ardiden, the Tourmalet, the Col d'Aubisque, Col d'Aspin and Col du Marie Blanc, and now St. Soulan, where George Hincapie climbed to a stunning victory in the 2005 Tour de France. Now MJCT invites you to explore the raw beauty and sheer power of the Pyrenees Mountains. Having started his European career in the Pyrenean town of Oloron St. Marie, Marty is "going home" to the towns, roads and climbs he knows so well - and climbs he wants to share with you. Nestled in the valleys of these towering mountains are classic French towns brimming with Old World charm, quaint villages in which we'll be staying. In addition to Oloron, we'll stay in Luz St. Saveur at the base of the "hors catégorie" climbs of the Tourmalet and Luz Ardiden. "Luz" will be the center for your adventure with climbs in every direction. Each village and hotel in which we stay features the comforts befitting the pro peleton: charming accommodations, excellent dining, incredible regional wines, and a friendly and attentive staff, all with an attention to detail. |
