| 2008 BASQUE COUNTRY |
| Imagine riding from France to Spain through areas inhabited since the Stone Age. Experience a culture so proud that it still maintains its own language which dates back over 7000 years. Basque! |
| From the ancient whaling village of Biarritz complete with sun-drenched beaches and picturesque sea, we'll ride inland over lush, green hills and unforgettable landscapes dotted with immaculate Basque homes built centuries ago, arriving in the medieval village of St. Jean-de-Port. Though we'll be riding over smooth roads and enjoying modern-day hotel amenities, St. Jean-de-Port transports you back in time to a mythical and mystical age of dungeons and dragons, a city protected by its own citadel. |
|
 |
| Continuing our journey, we'll traverse beautiful vista after beautiful vista, and descend upon the famed San Sebastian, the place where Spanish galleons sailed from to explore the New World centuries ago. Today's San Sebastian is cosmopolitan city which comes alive with people and energy at dusk. Ironically, the favorite "local's hang out" is in the Old Quarter which is a labyrinth of streets filled with cafes. It is a special place, where all who visit get caught up in its atmosphere which makes it difficult to leave. |
| This cycling trip visits special & spectacular places, and also offers world-class cycling responsible for producing some of the sport's most enthusiastic fans. Some of the world's toughest and most tenacious pros, including 5-time Tour de France winner, Miguel Indurain, and Abraham Olano, winner of the Vuelta Espana hail from the Basque Country. |
| In addition, we'll savor the excellent wines of Spain, and dine in traditional Basque style, enjoying "pinchos," similar to tapas, at various cafes along the way. And of course, our professional staff will be there every pedal stroke of the way to ensure your experience is one to last a lifetime. |
